Label Worx wishes you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year
As 2011 comes to an end it's time to reflect on what has been a very busy year for all. The team at Label Worx have worked very hard to deliver some great services and fantastic tools over the past 12 months.

The introduction of our daily sales system has by far been the best received new feature. The ability to see sales that occur at stores like iTunes and Beatport in near real-time is now enabling labels to better understand the progress of their releases without having to wait for their next statement.

Our new and improved player on the promo download pages has also gone down extremely well with both labels and DJ's alike! The ability to see track waveforms is invaluable and also review promos on mobile devices is a welcomed addition.

We will be making some exciting announcements in the coming months so stay tuned. This along with the on-going work to expand our DSP network and ingesting more stores into our daily sales system are high on our agenda for 2012.

We are very privileged to work with such a fantastic group of labels who are extremely driven and dedicated to getting their music out there.

We would therefore like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year.

See you in the New Year!

Juno Download powering new Resident Advisor music downloads
Juno Download have partnered with the world's leading online electronic music magazine, Resident Advisor, to make high quality music downloads available to buy directly through their site at www.residentadvisor.net.

Initially, download tracks will be available for purchase via the DJ Charts section, with the potential to expanding across the site later in the year. RA readers will be able to easily listen to and buy tracks being charted in high quality 320 MP3 and WAV formats.

Founded in 2001, the Webby Award-winning Resident Advisor with over 1.3 million unique readers a month, has grown to become one of the world's most influential electronic music websites. It has played a significant role in bringing fans and artists closer together with a daily flow of news, reviews, features, podcasts and charts.

This partnership promises to be a great opportunity for labels already working with Juno Download, as it will reach a new audience of dedicated electronic music fans and enthusiasts, providing them with more opportunities to legally purchase music from their favourite artists and labels online.

The store is hosted at www.residentadvisor.net, but all preview clips, release data and full length audio files will be stored centrally on Juno's own servers. Although customers will purchase tracks directly from RA, the download will come from Juno's systems.

Driven by RA's charts system digital downloads will be available from track pages already available on the site. For tracks to appear on sale, they must be 1) charted by artists on RA and 2) approved by RA. This means not all releases on Juno Download will make it onto the store, as RA will be managing what's made available.

Label Worx launches customizable promotion reporting
Our new promotion reporting system provides you with the capabilities of exporting highly customizable reports showcasing all manner of items such as graphical charts, campaign statistics, press page, label profile, artist biography, campaign notes and much more. and built a customizable reporting system that meets all of these requirements and more.

Reporting Features -

Detailed Campaign Statistics

Every conceivable number relating to the promo campaign can be exported onto the report if you so desire. Statistics such as overall release rating, supporting djs, feedback received, downloaded, viewed and best mix details can be displayed.

Graphical Reports

A brand new charts page has been added to the report which details the Best Mix, Overall Rating and Rating Breakdown in clean graphical chart to bring a new visible element to the report.

Promo List Filtering

It is now possible to export a report for selected promo lists only. You can easily select the lists you require from the filtered selection of promo lists that only shows those that have already been sent your campaign.

Summary Notes

The ability to make notes and store these against your promo campaign has been built in. You can then choose whether you wish to print these notes on the report or not.

Press Page

The optional press page allows you to export release, label and artist profile information onto your report. Everything from label profile through to social networking links can be displayed.

Date Range Reporting

Some labels provide feedback reports weekly to their artists. The new Date Range option allows you to filter the feedback received by date range and export a shorter feedback report if required.

Promo List Priority Ordering

You can now sort the feedback received by promo list name or by a custom priority. If you wanted to make sure your "Top 100 DJ's" promo list appears above your "Radio" promo list then this is now possible by prioritizing your promo lists and reporting in this order.

As usual Label Worx listens to the feedback from our labels and responds.

Trackitdown launches TID Pro
Last month Trackitdown celebrated their 7 year anniversary on the front lines of digital music retail. Congratulations to them!

With this celebration comes a new chapter from the company. Billed as a 'Revolution Designed for DJs' - TID Pro is a membership service that enables subscribing members to download music with a significant cost saving.

With an emphasis on value for money without harming the music makers, TID Pro is a new way for serious DJs to buy more music at a substantial discount so they can discover more - Trackitdown.net

So what does is cost? The monthly membership costs £10.00 which then allows all members to buy their music at cost price. That means that full quality WAV files are reduced from £1.75 to £0.99 and 320 kbps MP3s are down from £1.49 to £0.79. Exclusive tracks are unfortunately not currently included in the discounted rate at present.

If you only buy a couple of tracks a month then this service isn't for you but if you regularly download 20+ tracks then this might be worth a look at.

From a labels point of view, nothing has changed. Although TID Pro enables music to be purchased at a reduced rate, these sales are accounted as full track sales to labels.

iTunes increases listening samples to 90 seconds
Apple has finally realized that 30 seconds is just not long enough to get a good feel for a 7 minute dance track. Although it's a relatively small change, the adjustment to 90 seconds is a massive step forward for iTunes. This update brings the store in line with most other digital retail outlets and is available in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK and parts of Europe.

These music samples are what will sell your music so it's important that they are correct.

For all Label Worx distributed content, you have the ability to specify at which point in the track that 90 seconds sample should start from so you have complete control.

The Daily Sales system details sales figures from multiple stores via simple graphical charts. This allows for an easy overview of estimated sales collated from several sources in one single reporting system. These sales figures are accessible far in advance of your actual sales statements.

Now you can easily track how many sales you made on iTunes yesterday or how many tracks you sold to reach your position on a Beatport chart.

With access to near real time sales you are now able to manage your label and your promotions with greater detail and efficiency.

Apple introduces iCloud
Apple officially announced iCloud on the 6th June. This is Apple's seamless approach to cloud computing and will be launching "this fall" (no exact date given). This service will be available to everybody for free with compatible devices.

You can read all about iCloud and it's many features here - apple.com/icloud

In regards to iTunes and the music aspects of iCloud two new services we unveiled - "iTunes in the Cloud" and "iTunes Match".

iTunes in the Cloud

"With iCloud, the music you purchase in iTunes appears automatically on all your devices. You can also download your past iTunes purchases. Where you want, when you want."

If you have multiple iOS devices this really takes the hassle out of syncing your music. You simply buy it once on your Mac, PC or iOS device and it automatically appears on your other devices. Apple are now also allowing you to register and sync to 10 devices to your account (up from 5). There is no extra charge to the customer and no extra royalties to the labels for this. You could do this manually before, Apple have just automated the process. Pretty neat we think!

iTunes Match

We are still digesting exactly how this will work and how exactly you will get paid but the below is Apple's detailed description regarding iTunes Match :

If you want all the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for music you haven't purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution. It lets you store your entire collection, including music you've ripped from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes. For just $24.99 a year.

Here's how it works: iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to your iCloud library for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 18 million songs in the iTunes Store, most of your music is probably already in iCloud. All you have to upload is what iTunes can't match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. And all the music iTunes matches plays back at 256-Kbps iTunes Plus quality - even if your original copy was of lower quality.

So that's iTunes Match. The benefits we can all agree are pretty great and the annual price makes this service a steal. We have some points that need clarifying from Apple regarding royalty payments, how they prevent matching of illegal content and pricing for different territories so we will follow up on this post with the finer details along with an official launch date as soon as we know.
